News and Information
| Diving at Fowey weekend 2-3 October |
|---|
|
By popular demand Ian is organising a week end diving out of the picturesque Cornish town of Fowey.
There are a limited number of places to dive out of Fowey. The two favourites being the Kantoeng Dredger wreck and Udder Rock an extensive reef. Both of which can be done at any state of the tide. There is no appropriate shore diving in the area.
As you all know we are limited to taking six divers in a wave. What has worked well out of Fowey in the past is to do three waves in a day for a more relaxed schedule. I’ve yet to find out how many we have got going but I hope to be able to guarantee everyone three dives over the week end.
We’ll be staying in static caravans at Par, only a few miles from Fowey. For those that haven’t been, it’s a pleasant relaxed site but as it is out of season, it has few facilities open. The village of Par is a few minutes walk away and has ample facilities for those considering eating and/or drinking of an evening.
The costs of the week end to be similar to the recent Porthkerris trip both for accommodation and diving. Ian can give a more accurate cost for accommodation when I know how many are coming. Please let me know if you are interested in staying on the Friday evening, but to make the costs reasonable we will need enough people to fill a van.
We are considering staying over on the Sunday night to dive on the Monday if there is enough interest.
You can sign up for this week end by phone, email or in person on Tuesday night. Ian would like to book the caravans by Wednesday 15 September so will require deposits Tuesday week. |

| Hardboat Diving out of West Bay on the M2 Sub' for 10/10/10 |
|---|
|
Alan is organizing Hardboat Diving out of West Bay for 10/10/10. The plan will be to dive the M2 late morning then a drift dive in the afternoon, Click here for the M2 Wreck Tour We'll be on high water springs, so the max depth will be about 36mtrs. The Hardboat can take 12 people, and has a dive lift and loo. They even provide a bit of lunch (typically hotdog or pasty) Click here to read about the hardboat The cost will be £38 per person. (Assuming 12 people) As we will be chartering the whole boat we need to be strict with the booking terms (sorry - but that's life). Once you have paid me your money, then if you decide not to go then it will be up to you to sell your ticket (and off course, that person must be someone I think is suitable). There will be no refunds (the only exception to this is if the skipper cancels the trip). The trip is now fully booked - but contact Alan to be added to the reserve list.

| AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND 28-30 August 2010 |
|---|
|
Ian is organising the Bank Holiday weekend, Diving from Porthkerris on the Lizzard. We will be camping at a campsite still to be determined. Contact Ian for more details.
|
| DIVING WEST BAY 15 AUGUST 2010 |
|---|
|
10 divers went to West Bay planning to dive the St. Duntan followed by the Bay Gitano. Unfortunately the GPS failed (its now been fixed thanks to Shaun) so only local reef diving was done. The reef actually turned out to be quite good - with some impressively sized wrasse.
|
| DIVING SWANAGE 25 JULY 2010 |
|---|
|
A complicated and exciting days diving was arranged by Alan at Swanage. 11 divers went, 21 dives were done, at 5 different locations, requiring 4 waves on the club boat, and making both the High and Low water slacks. Two waves of diving occured on the Kyarra - a 30m wreck in a very tidal location - so it was very important that the day was run like clockwork to ensure both slacks were made. It was acheived with just 10 minutes to spare. 6 divers dived on the Valentine Tanks - this was the first time the club had ever dived on these experimental, amphibious tanks. The current was a little exciting for some, but people found the tanks very interresting. There was also drift diving near the Anvil Lighthouse, and Anna and Andy had their first dives as a buddy pair together underneath Swanage Pier. |
| DIVING CHALLABOROUGH & PLYMOUTH-26&27th; JUNE |
|---|
|
We are planning to dive with the boat this week end; two different locations over two days Some of us will be staying at Pennymoor Campsite. Saturday will be out of Challaborough TQ7 4HU. We will dive the wreck of the Persier (27-28m) as the first dive, this is an excellent wreck for Sports divers and above. Sceanic dives around Burgh Island will probably be the second dive. Challaborough is a lovely sandy beach with plenty of amenities including air. Sunday will probably be out of Plymouth with a range of possibilities suitable for all levels. Members are welcome to come down either day. We can firm up the plan when we know the composition of the group so please let D.O.Ian know, ASAP if you are interested!
|
| DIVING @ CHESIL COVE SUNDAY 20th.JUNE |
|---|
|
We are shore diving this Sunday from Chesil Beach, Portland. There are light winds (6 mph) from the north becoming 5 mph from the NW in the afternoon; we are on neaps low water is at 07:15 (1.2 acd) & high water at 14:03 (3.2 acd). The weather leading up to Sunday is good so sea conditions should be settled and with luck the vis will be fair. With strong sun and temperatures around 20C I highly recommend wide brimmed hats and plenty of sun block. The beach is entirely made up of pebbles so bring something to sit on. There is limited parking close to the area we will dive and kit may have to be dropped off and carried along the promenade, check out Google earth. If you have a sack truck or trolley it could be useful as we may go to the end of the prom. On the positive side there is now a Café on the prom called Quiddles, I spoke to them earlier and they do food and drinks although they sound a bit posh. There is toilet block which is now under their control. Air is available at Castletown about 1 mile away. At the moment we have Andrew & Anna, Roy, Keith, Chris, Karen and myself. Of course all are welcome but please let me know if you are coming and if you need any kit contact me ASAP so I can collect it from the pool, After 10 Friday morning it will be too late!!! We're thinking of getting there early to try and get a parking spot as close to the site as possible. The days brief will start about 9.15, please DON’T be late!
